Jean-Denis Britten has added his name to the Yukon Quest start list, pushing the total number of registered mushers to 19 for the 2014 race.

The 47-year-old Britten is a race veteran, previously finishing ninth in the 2008 Quest.

Britten joins fellow Dawson City musher Brian Wilmshurst and Whitehorse musher Normand Casavant as the three Yukoners registered to run the grueling 1,600-km sled dog race.

Just four of the 19 mushers registered are Canadian, with Fort St. James, B.C. musher Jerry Joinson rounding out the list.

Britten has been running dogs for 21 years, listing his reason for starting in the sport as "had no car.鈥

The 31st Yukon Quest will begin in Fairbanks Feb. 1, and will follow the trail to鈥圵hitehorse.

In 2013, Allen Moore won the race for the first time, edging 2012 champion Hugh Neff.
