The Shiroumakai Judo Club dominated Saturday's shiai in Whitehorse, finishing first in both cup and trophy standings for the second straight tournament.
The Shiroumakai Judo Club dominated Saturday's shiai in Whitehorse, finishing first in both cup and trophy standings for the second straight tournament.
"I was very pleased with the tournament,鈥 said Judo Yukon president Dan Poelman. "There was some great competition in terms of spectacular throws and hold downs.鈥
The Northern Lights Judo Championships was held at 脡cole 脡milie-Tremblay Saturday morning.
Four clubs attended, including Shiroumakai, Northern Lights, Golden Horn and Hiroshikai out of Carcross.
Thirty-three judokas competed in 10 divisions on the mats, and in two practical and theory knowledge divisions.
Poelman said he was pleased with the athlete turnout, giving it was Rendezvous weekend.
Poelman said Shiroumakai is "running alone鈥 atop the standings for both the Champion League Cup and Best Performance Club Trophy.
The cup is awarded to the club with the highest point total, as determined by placing. The trophy goes to the club with the top average points per participant.
The next competition for local judokas is the Edmonton International Judo Championship April 5 to 7. Eleven athletes are currently registered. The Yukon Judo Championships will then be held at the Canada Games Centre on May 4.
Hiroshikai finished second in Saturday's competition, the host club took third, while Golden Horn finished fourth.
Individual gold-medal winners in each division were as follows:
Mixed Under-9, -26 kg: Luke Roberts (Golden Horn).
Boys Under-9, -29 kg: Tristan Cruickshank (Northern Lights).
Boys Under-11, -33 kg: Eban Basnett (Shiroumakai).
Boys Under-13, -36 kg: Mattias Sembsmoen (Northern Lights).
Mixed Under-11, -33 kg: Ove Maxfield (Shiroumakai).
Boys Under-11, -45 kg: Kaajineek Neumann (Northern Lights).
Girls Under-13, -39 kg: Talula Maxfield (Shiroumakai).
Girls Under-13, +45 kg: Hannah King (Shiroumakai).
Boys Under-15, -50 kg: Reece Newell (Northern Lights).
Boys Under-18, -90 kg: Jacob Hall (Hiroshikai).
Knowledge, beginner: Wyatt Burnett (Shiroumakai).
Knowledge, intermediate: Hannah King (Shiroumakai).
