The Shiroumakai Judo Club's season got off to great start Friday at the Golden Horn Judo Championships at Golden Horn School.
Shiroumakai, based out of Vanier Catholic Secondary School, emerged with the top points total in the Judo Yukon Champions League, ahead of last year's defending champions, the Northern Lights Judo Club, which trains out of 脡cole 脡milie-Tremblay.
The Golden Horn Judo Club is ranked third after the season-opening tournament, while the Carcross Judo Club is in fourth.
"As we did for the last two years in our Champions League, we have the three categories of fighting, (and the) demonstration of judo knowledge, practical and theory,鈥 said Judo Yukon president Dan Poelman.
"This year, the knowledge practical category has expanded to not only demonstrate the four different types of breakfalls, but also the various stances and movements.
"The challenging part was knowing the judo terminology, which was of course in Japanese, tough to know for any ages.鈥
