A flat, well-groomed trail was the recipe for success at the 13th annual Lorne Mountain Classic.
A flat, well-groomed trail was the recipe for success at the 13th annual Lorne Mountain Classic.
More than 140 skiers competed in age-specific races Saturday afternoon.
The race, which began in 2001, is intended to be a fun, but competitive event for Yukon ski athletes.
"This year, we worked really hard to have a really good trail,鈥 said chief of race Karen McKenna. "I think it was probably the best trail that we've had ever.鈥
Volunteers had been working hard to prepare the trail since before Christmas.
McKenna said both Dave Brook and Yukon Elite Skier Knute Johnsgaard deserve kudos for their time spent tracksetting the trail.
"Without a PistenBully 鈥 it's really hard to get a good solid trail,鈥 McKenna explained. "But people worked at it really hard this year.鈥
Following the race, competitors enjoyed a bowl of chili, a skate on the beautiful outdoor rink, or skiing on a small hill near the lodge.
The Lorne Mountain Community Centre is located at kilometre one of Annie Lake Road.
