It was a perfect day for the Northwestel Hut to Hut and more than 250 skiers were greeted by beautiful snow conditions and a sunny sky at the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club Saturday.

Many volunteers, including Northwestel employees, hut hosts, and NDP MLA Jim Tredger worked hard to put on the fun, family event.

The Hut to Hut has been running for several years, but this year, the ski club partnered with Northwestel to increase the event's profile.

The goal was to encourage even more skiers and snowshoers to discover the huts along the club's extensive trail network.

Each hut offered surprises, treats and activities for the families.

Coast Mountain Sports hosted Harvey's Hut, surprising skiers with treats and draw prizes for dogs. The hut is located on Dog/Sundog trail so skiers and dogs were welcomed.

Fireweed Hut is located on the famous World Cup 10K trail near Selwyn's Loop. Duncan's Ltd. sponsored the hut and ski club board members handed out hot cider and homemade cookies.

Sarah Steele Hut was a great destination for those who like a long climb, fast descent and great food. The Steeles went all out and enticed 150 skiers to their smorgasbord and the perfectly-groomed Sarah Steele Loop.

Northwestel volunteers handed out prizes and memorable cookies along the trail as they tested skiers with questions about the event's title sponsor. They also helped at the chalet lunch, sponsored in part by Alpine Bakery.

There were no losers in the Hut to Hut. But there were a few draw prize winners. The major prize, an iPad mini, went to Lucy Steele. Ski club memberships for next season were won by Emilienne Roberts and Finn Gallant.

Meanwhile, the winners of the ski club's Air North Challenge were also announced today.

Sheila Sullivan, a visitor from Ontario, was the winner of the Air North flight for two to a gateway city in the west. Other winners included Lorrie Greer and Monique Levesque, who won ski memberships.

More than 100 skiers competed in the month-long event, which saw competitors find 20 Air North ‘destinations' along the club's 85-km trail system.

In order to find all 20, skiers had to travel the entire trail network.
