Four young snowboarders made the most of the final CS Riders (Canadian Snowboard) event of the season Sunday at Mt. Sima.
Ethan Davy took home top honours in a tightly-contested box and rail competition.
"It was an awesome show,鈥 organizer David Pharand told the Star in an email.
"Three judges had the toughest time as every run proved to be better than the ones before.鈥
Davy, Asher Brault, Isaiah English and Bill Newkirk each had seven runs, counting their top-scored run against their competitors'.
"Parents and spectators were blown away by the skills they were seeing from such a young age group,鈥 said Pharand.
"Truly amazing to see how far they've come from the beginning of the season.鈥
Davy took the overall lead on his final run, moving from third to first with a final score of 90.
Davy performed a switch boardslide to regular on the downward box, a 50/50 to fakie on the pyramid box, and a smooth butter over the last box to achieve the high score.
Brault took second, earning a score of 85 on his fourth run. The run included a "Yea Boi鈥 5.0 on the downward box, a 50/50 to fakie on the pyramid box, and a steezy butter on the last box.
English took third after entering the competition as an underdog. His front boardslide to regular on the downward box and subsequent 50/50 to fakie on the pyramid box earned him a score of 84 on his fourth run.
Pharand called his efforts mindblowing.
"His determination and focus upped the ante of the competition,鈥 he said.
Newkirk finished fourth with a top score of 70.
A strong, quick racer, the youngster's top marks came after a 50/50 on the downward box, and straight air off the pyramid box which helped him clear the final feature.
The event was the last in the CS Riders series at Mt. Sima. Pharand will be taking the competition on the road, starting Saturday in Watson Lake.
Further events will occur in Dawson City at Moose Mountain during March Break.
The Rider Series introduces participants to competitive snowboarding through a skills course and fun winter competition designed to challenge freestyle, snowboardcross and alpine skills.
