Special Olympians set to compete at B.C. Summer Games
A large group of athletes from Special Olympics Yukon are heading to Langley, B.C. today to participate in the 2013 Special Olympics British Columbia Summer Games.
A large group of athletes from Special Olympics Yukon are heading to Langley, B.C. today to participate in the 2013 Special Olympics British Columbia Summer Games.
Yukon athletes will compete in five sports. The multi-sport event runs until Sunday.
In the sport of bocce, the local team is comprised of Taylor Amundson, Trevor Beemish, Aimee Lien and Teresa Roberts. Bocce is coached by Deb Sumner.
For the sport of golf, Tijana McCarthy and J.S. Gallant are competing on behalf of Special Olympics Yukon. They are coached by Charlene Donald.
The Yukon soccer team is made up of Rachel Dawson, William Everett, Marvin Hall, Duncan Gibb, Teddy Jackson, Chris Lee, Steven McGundy, Gaetan Michaud, Michael Sumner and Kenny Atlin.
The head coach of soccer is Natalie Taylor, and assistant coaches are Thomas Reixenger and Kenn Binns.
The mission staff will be Clayton Francis.
The athletes participating in swimming are Ernest Chua, Stefan Oettli and Kevin Spofford. Head coach is Kaitlin McDougall and mission staff is Hans Oettli.
The Chef de Mission is Serge Michaud and the team managers are Thomas Gibbs and Janine Peters. Peters was recently named the new program director of Special Olympics Yukon.
The B.C. Summer Games serve as Special Olympics Yukon qualifiers for Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in July 2014.
