A group of 37 athletes, coaches and mission staff will be introduced as Team Yukon 2014 this Friday at a Special Olympics Yukon pep rally and send-off.

The event will take place in the Fireside Room of the Yukon Inn at 7 p.m.

Soon, Team Yukon 2014 will travel to Vancouver to compete at the 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games taking place July 7 to 13.

The first Yukon Law Enforcement Torch Run in 13 years will also take place this Friday in Whitehorse.

The Torch Run runners will carry the Flame of Hope from the S.S. Klondike at 1 p.m., following Second Avenue to Main Street.

The run will turn left onto Main before finishing at the RCMP building on Fourth Avenue at approximately 1:20, when a short press conference will occur.

The run is in honour of team travelling to the Canada Summer Games.

The Yukon Law Enforcement Torch Run raises awareness and funds for Special Olympics Yukon.

Globally, the Flame of Hope is carried by law enforcement officials into Special Olympics opening ceremonies at regional, national and international competitions.

Special Olympics Yukon enriches the lives of Yukoners with an intellectual disability through sport.
