The Whitehorse Rapids Speed Skating Club will kick off the 2012/13 season this weekend with a development camp.

Debby Fisher, a former coach at the National Speed Skating Training Centre in Calgary and an inductee in Speed Skating Canada's Hall of Fame, will run the camp.

Fisher will lead skaters of all abilities through individual skating techniques and tactical racing strategies.

Spectators at the 2012 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse will easily remember Fisher's booming voice, as she was one of the lap counters during the speed skating competition.

Off-ice warm-ups and dry-land training instruction will also be part of camp.

The camp begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the Canada Games Centre and will wrap up at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Cost for the three-day camp is $100 for beginner and intermediate skaters, and $175 for advanced skaters.
