Northwestel will help the International Softball Federation hit it out of the park next week as they host the 10th ISF Junior Men鈥檚 Softball Championship in Whitehorse.

The local company will support the event with a $7,500 in-kind contribution that will go towards live-streaming the event to fans around the world when the Pepsi Softball Centre becomes a battle ground for 10 hopeful teams from five continents across the globe.

The championship kicks off tomorrow and will continue until July 20 as Argentina tries to retain their title from 2008.

Team Canada plays its first game at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, taking on the Czech Republic.

鈥淣orthern Canada is absolutely filled with young athletic talent,鈥 Northwestel president and CEO Paul Flaherty said in a press release.

鈥淚t is important that Northwestel continues to stimulate sport in the North so our kids have access to the same opportunities as southern athletes.鈥

Northwestel remains a large sponsor and community leader in northern youth sports.

Northwestel鈥檚 sponsorship of the 2014 ISF Junior Men鈥檚 Softball Championship is made possible by way of their more than $550,000 annual contribution to community investment.

The 2014 ISF Junior Men鈥檚 Softball Championship is not the first major softball event to grace Whitehorse fields.

The Pepsi Softball Centre and Softball Yukon have hosted a variety of major softball events including the 2012 Women鈥檚 World Softball Championship and the 2008 Junior Men鈥檚 World Championship.
