Nineteen community organizations are receiving more than $1 million in support from the Government of Yukon's Community Development Fund (CDF) for projects promoting recreation, health and education.
"These projects contribute to the health and vitality of Yukon communities,鈥 Premier Darrell Pasloski said in a press release last week.
"The CDF continues to demonstrate the government's commitment to improving the social and economic well-being of Yukoners.鈥
The CDF offers three levels of support. Tier 1 funding is available for requests up to $20,000. Tier 2 funding is available for applicants requesting $20,001 to $75,000 and Tier 3 funding is for requests over $75,000.
Last week's announcement concerns Tier 2 projects.
Kwanlin D眉n First Nation, for example, is receiving $75,000 towards upgrading the skating rink and softball field in the McIntyre subdivision.
"Our Council actively supports community-based recreation,鈥 Kwanlin D眉n Chief Rick O'Brien said. "The funding assistance toward facility improvements will help to enhance our recreation programming in the community in addition to making our facilities more accessible and user-friendly for all to enjoy.鈥
Organizations are encouraged to contact the community development advisors well before the deadlines for help with their applications and developing project ideas.
The next deadline for Community Development Fund applications is Oct. 15 for Tier 1 support. Visit www.cdf.gov.yk.ca.
