Robbie Stuckey scored a thousand-dollar goal Sunday afternoon.

The Air North Jets forward corralled a pass from Evan Campbell in behind the Yukon Brewing defence and quickly whipped a shot under goalie Tyler Plaunt just over a minute into overtime.

An off-balance Stuckey hit the ice following the goal, before being mobbed by his teammates.

"The puck just kind of trickled through some legs there and ended up on my stick,鈥 he told the Star post-game. "Luckily, I was able to bury it.鈥

The goal earned Air North a 5-4 victory in the A Division Rendezvous Hockey Tournament, and $1,000 in prize money.

Ryan Gleason scored a hat trick to power Air North in a penalty-filled final, while Colin Dendys chipped in a single.

Air North was penalized 10 times in the game, including three minors and a misconduct to forward Kane Dawe alone.

Rob Warner led the way for Yukon Brewing, scoring twice and adding two assists.

Aaron Pettitt and Derek Klassen each scored once and picked up two assists.

Stuckey said his golden goal was "up there鈥 on his list of career achievements, before adding the first portion of the team's money would be used on some cold beverages at Takhini Arena.

"I'm sure it won't last too long,鈥 he chuckled.

The win is the latest on a long list for Air North this season. The team currently boasts a first place record of 28-2 in Rec A Division action, 17 points up on second place SLFS/Murphy Built.

The team has four scorers in the league's top-10, including Campbell (33G, 40A), Stuckey (32G, 29A), Dawe (20G, 36A) and Dendys (30G, 22A).

Goalie Rob Young, meanwhile, has a sparkling 25-1 record.

Despite the dream season, Air North isn't taking anything for granted.

"We definitely had to earn it,鈥 Stuckey said of the tournament win. "Lately, we've been struggling with some games. We just haven't been able to get everything clicking. We knew today was going to be a battle.鈥

Air North dropped their opening round-robin game Friday afternoon, 5-4 to Yukon Brewing.

They went on to pound the G-Pud Stars 7-2, before squeaking by New Age Drilling 7-6 in the quarter-finals Saturday afternoon.

It took a shootout for the Jets to beat Roadhouse 5-4 in the semi's Saturday night.

"They've got a lot of good players over there, but I thought it was a back-and-forth game,鈥 said Warner, currently seventh in league scoring with 37 goals and 22 helpers.

"They usually beat up on teams, but we really thought we had them this game. That's the way she goes sometimes.鈥

Warner's teammate Klassen leads the league with 32 goals and 58 assists for third-place Yukon Brewing.

Warner said the tournament may have been a preview of what's to come in the rec hockey playoffs.

"We were on the short end this time, but maybe next time in the playoffs we'll get them.鈥
