A total of 340 student runners took to the hills for the Vanier Ridge Run Friday afternoon.

With school participation from Haines Junction and Whitehorse, the popular race saw 128 more runners than last year competing for a variety of age group titles.
鈥淎long with the highest ever participation, I鈥坅m sure it was the hottest Vanier Ridge Run ever,鈥� organizer Janet Clarke told the Star.
The event took on a carnival feel thanks to the sounds of Vanier鈥檚 rock band, she added.
Schools represented were Christ the King, 脡cole 脡milie-Tremblay, Ecole Whitehorse Elementary, Elijah Smith Elementary, Hidden Valley Elementary, Holy Family, Jack Hulland Elementary, Montessori, Selkirk Elementary, St. Elias Community, Takhini Elementary and the three area high schools 鈥� F.H. Collins, Porter Creek and Vanier.
National-level Special Olympics runner Darby McIntyre (Vanier) set the pace in the five-kilometre run, finishing with the day鈥檚 best time of 22:22.
Regan Fuerstner (F.H. Collins) led the way in the girls five-km race, crossing the finish line in 27:52.
Other divisional winners in the five-km event included: Sammy Mather (EET); Malcolm Muir (F.H. Collins); Steven Ferguson (WES); Sonjaa Schmidt (HV); Alyssa Gullison (F.H. Collins); Ashley Reynolds (TAK); and Michele Trimble (HF).
Winners in the three-km category were Jack Hulland鈥檚 Nisha Dempsey (19:31) and Ecole Whitehorse Elementary鈥檚 Kate Mason (23:51).
Other winners were: Daniel鈥團reedman-Phillips (Montessori); and the St. Elias duo of Eden Dulac and Emery Ohlin.
The run is one of a handful on the Yukon Schools鈥� Athletics Association calendar this month.
Others include the Carmacks Ridge Run, the Pine Grove Run, the Ben Sheardown Run and the Haines Junction Forestry Run.
Secondary and elementary-level track meets will be held next week following the completion of the annual racing circuit.
