Tai Chi Yukon is getting ready to celebrate.

April 26 marks the 15th annual celebration of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.

At 10 a.m., people in hundreds of cities from more than 80 countries and six continents will gather to practise tai chi and qigong and send a healing wave of energy around the planet.

This year, Tai Chi Yukon will also celebrate its 25th anniversary.

In 1989, Cheryl Buchan began teaching tai chi classes in Whitehorse. From this beginning, the organization has trained many teachers, made links with national and international tai chi organizations, hosted many guest instructors and workshops, and taught hundreds of Yukoners tai chi's relaxing and healing techniques.

At last night's city council meeting, Mayor Dan Curtis formally recognized these two special events by signing a proclamation stating that April 26 will be World Tai Chi and Qigong Day in the City of Whitehorse.

Tai Chi Yukon invites everyone, particularly former students, to gather at the Whitehorse Wharf on Front Street on Saturday morning, from 10 to 11.
