Team Yukon has resumed its chase for a medal at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

The territory's second group of athletes includes athletics, canoe/kayak, golf, road cycling and male soccer team members.

This week has been a historic one for the Yukon, with local athletes taking on sports never before competed in.

Today, flag bearer Kieran Halliday finished 12th in the 3,000-metre steeplechase – the first time a Yukoner has ever competed in the event.

Yesterday, paddlers Andrew Crist and Jason Zrum became the first two Yukon athletes to compete in a kayak and canoe at the Canada Games. Crist finished ninth in his first 500-metre solo kayak race, before joining Zrum for a K-2 1,000-metre race, which they finished in just over five minutes.

The two competed again today in the K-1 100-metre and the K-1 1,000-metre races.

Yesterday, athletics captain Logan Roots advanced to the 1,500-metre final after recording a personal best 4:00.55 in the preliminary heats.

Road cyclists Melanie Tait and Shea Hoffman raced a time trial yesterday, with Tait earning a top-20 result in her 16-kilometre race with a quick 24:43.70. Hoffman, meanwhile, finished his 20-kilometre race in 32:19.77, finishing 42nd.

On the soccer pitch, some strong play from the men's soccer team did not translate into wins.

The Yukon dropped their first match to powerhouse Ontario 7-0, but had a chance at a lead when Mike Wintemute's strike hit the crossbar behind the Ontario keeper in the 22nd minute of the match.

Ontario converted a corner kick four minutes later to take a lead they would not relinquish.

The club's second game was much closer, but the territory again failed to dent the mesh, losing 2-0 to New Brunswick.

The team will now face Saskatchewan tomorrow in the first game of the cross-overs.

The Yukon's three golfers – Trever Harris, James McGrath and Parker Olson – shot their final practice round on a tricky Club de Golf Milby, and will spend the next three days competing for a chance in the finals.

Yukoner Jessica Frotten will compete for Saskatchewan in three para wheelchair races in the coming days, including the 200-, 400- and 1,500-metre events.

Hi Anita, your best bet would be to contact Sport Yukon via their website: http://sportyukon.com/

Thank you to all the athletes for coming and making the Canada Games what they are.

I have a question: My twin boys have been collecting pins over the last 2 weeks. Unfortunately they were unable to get a pin from the Yukon. I was wondering if it would be possible to have 2 mailed to me. I'm willing to pay for them.

Thanks
