The best soccer talent the Yukon Territory has to offer will be on display tonight during the annual Christmas soccer showcase.
The Yukon Selects will mingle with the top post-secondary players who have returned home to Whitehorse for the holidays.
Contrary to last year's U-20 versus over-21 challenge, won 7-6 by the U-20 team, this year's game will be an intrasquad matchup.
Selects captain Nick Locke estimated 100 to 150 people would come out to watch one of the year's most highly-anticipated friendlies.
Admission is free.
The action will get underway at 6 p.m. and run until 8:15 p.m. at the Canada Games Centre Fieldhouse.
"It's usually a pretty intense game,鈥 Locke said of the showcase. "It's really fast and it's mostly all university, college or high-level club players.鈥
A women's match, featuring top local players, will battle a Yukon girls team aiming to compete at the Canada Games next summer in Sherbrooke, Que. Game time is 6 p.m.
The men's game will begin at 7:15 p.m.
"This match features a lot of the top talent here in the territory, usually drawing quite a good audience,鈥 said local player Jake Hanson. "It is a well-anticipated match by many of the players, and some of the spectators as well.鈥
Hanson will be scouting the game in order to put a team together for a tournament in Prince George, B.C. for next March.
"It's usually one of the main tournaments that we go to,鈥 said Locke. "It's kind of a nasty place to go, but it's a high-quality tournament. Lots of good teams show up.鈥
