Former NHL鈥埪槎股缜鳷heoren Fleury will be the keynote speaker at the Adäka Cultural Festival next week in Whitehorse.
Former NHL鈥埪槎股缜鳷heoren Fleury will be the keynote speaker at the Ad盲ka Cultural Festival next week in Whitehorse.
His speech will take place next Wednesday at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre at 5 p.m.
Fleury's presentation "Don't Quit Before the Miracle鈥 sends a message of hope, perseverance and moving forward.
Following the speech, Fleury will make himself available for autographs and pictures at 6 p.m.
The longtime Calgary Flames forward will be in the Yukon capital as part of the Northwestel Summit Hockey School's "Learning to Lead鈥 summer camp.
The 12th annual camp is slated to occur at the Canada Games Centre from July 2 to 6.
"Kids from all over the Yukon come to Whitehorse for this camp,鈥 said Peter Johnston, Aboriginal liaison at Northwestel. "We're the first hockey camp of the summer and are excited to have Theo helping us coach the kids.鈥
Fleury's trip to Whitehorse is being sponsored by Northwestel's community investment program.
Fleury, known as a small forward who played much bigger than his size, is a former NHL鈥坅ll-star, Stanley Cup winner and Olympic gold medallist. He officially retired in 2009.
In retirement, he has become known as an author and healing motivator through his book, Playing with Fire.
The Ad盲ka Cultural Festival works to showcase the Yukon's diverse and distinctive First Nations arts and culture.
