Tootoo to play in NHL charity game

Jordin Tootoo will headline the NHL charity game set for Wednesday at Takhini Arena.

Tour organizers released the names of the first five players who will be participating in their Arctic tour early this morning.

Tootoo, a Nunavut native, signed with the Detroit Red Wings this summer, after eight seasons in Nashville.

Other names released included Ottawa Senators Chris Phillips, Chris Neil, Zach Smith and Peter Regin.

The game, which will feature a variety of current NHL players, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and go on sale this weekend at Sport Yukon, 4061 4th Ave. A four-ticket maximum purchase has been put in place. Takhini Arena is a 1,535-seat venue.

The northern charity tour will begin Sunday with a game in Yellowknife, N.W.T.

On Tuesday, the players will face-off in Inuvik, before flying into Whitehorse on Wednesday.
