Top squash teams set to clash in final playoff showdown

Division 1 and 2 playoff finals are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday at Better Bodies.
In Div. 1 action, Team Assante will battle Outside the Cube in tomorrow night's final.
The two teams finished the regular season standings in first and second, with 317 and 307 points, respectively.
In semifinal playoff action last Tuesday, Assante edged Yukon Tree Services 15-14, while Outside the Cube bested Pizza Hut 19-12.
Assante's Gabriel Stetkiewicz and Mark Tubman both shut out their opponents – Ian Ruitenberg and Grayson Peters – by a score of 3-0.
Meanwhile, Yukon Tree Services' Kevin Daffe beat Doug Thorseth 3-1 and Ben Gelinas shut out Chris Ziegler 3-0, but it wouldn't be enough.
Outside the Cube topped Pizza Hut on the strength of three wins.
Chris Toleman shut down Lori Muir 3-0, Phil Jackson beat Tyler Nesgaard 3-1 and Taylor Love edged substitute player Kealan Campbell 3-2 in the matchup.
Pizza Hut's lone win came courtesy of Stephen Buckler, who beat sub Jim Gilpin 3-0.
In the fifth-place game, Ketza beat EBA 21-7.
Shahid Syed beat Coleman Newell 3-1, and three substitute players all won their matchups over EBA regulars.
Eshan Idrees beat Glenn Rudman 3-0, Mustafa Syed topped Stephen Grundmanis 3-2 and Michael Hanson downed Danny Yurick 3-1.
In Div. 2 action, Sterling Insurance will square off with Team Yukon Brewing Co. in the final this Thursday.
In last week's semifinals, Sterling Insurance edged out Solstice Landscaping 15-13 while Yukon Brewing dominated The Electrical Shop 24-4.
Yukon Brewing topped the Div. 2 regular season standings with 297 points, while Sterling Insurance was close behind with 295 points.
In action last Thursday, the league's top team handed Electrical Shop a lopsided loss behind shutout wins courtesy of Matt Johnson, Brian Healy and Cathy MacDonald over Jen Meurer, sub David Buckler and sub Aaron Nicholson, respectively.
In the other matchup, Meagan Klassen edged substitute Muhammed Idrees 3-2.
Sterling Insurance's route to the final was more difficult.
Jordy Walker shut out Rebecca World 3-0, and Shermaine Chua defeated Paul Shrubshall 3-0 for Sterling's wins, but Marie Maratos dropped her matchup with Andre Benoit 3-0 and Gary Tanner lost 3-1 to Kealan Campbell as the score remained close.
Gold Rush Inn edged Underhill Geomatics 15-14 to take fifth.
Gold Rush's Amy Ryder beat sub Sana Syed 3-0, and Jaylene Ellard beat sub Lissa Abel 3-1 to lead the way.
Underhill's wins came courtesy of Connor Morgan, 3-1 over John Ryder, and Shari Thompson, who shut out Lara-Rae Grant 3-0.

Competing in the U-17 boys draw, Mustafa Syed won his first matchup 3-0 over Vancouver's Adam Wong, but lost his next game to Ontario's Ethan Shoihet by a score of 3-0 in the round of 32.
Kai Knorr played in the U-19 boys event, but lost 3-0 to B.C. player Thobani Alykhan in the round of 32.
