After shooting a 70 to open his tournament, Yukon's Jeff Wiggins endured a difficult second round yesterday at the 2013 PGA鈥圕lub Professional Championship of Canada in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Wiggins shot a round of 75, which he called "just OK鈥 by his standards.

"I had three balls that got extremely plugged in bunkers during today's round,鈥 he said in an email to the Star yesterday. "All three were almost unplayable. Those three unfortunate breaks cost me four strokes.鈥

Sitting at four-over on the 11th hole, a frustrated and disappointed Wiggins had "a little chit-chat鈥 with himself on his way to the 12th hole, and refocused to go one-under through the last seven holes.

While he made the cut, he knows he "lost quite a bit of ground鈥 on the leaders.

Wiggins, Mountain View Golf Club's director of golf, is competing in his third straight national championship, and entered this particular event with expectations of a top-10 finish.

Entering his final round on the Ryder Course tied for 33rd, he knows he needs luck on his side.

"I鈥坵ill give it 100 per cent and hope a few breaks go my way, and with a little luck, achieve the goal of top 10 or 15,鈥 he said.
