As of press time today, 12 more teams have scratched from the River Quest.

Five teams withdrew from the race yesterday, leaving 49 still on the river en route to Dawson City.

The first boat – Brit kayakers Shaun Thrower and Steve King (Team 35) – is expected to reach Dawson City some time tonight.

Recently-scratched teams include:

solo kayaker Denise Norman of Whitehorse (Team 56);

solo kayaker David Williams of South Carolina (Team 5);

Alberta canoeists Jessica Zimny and Julie Greening-Winkel (Team 4);

Toronto kayaker David Shedd (Team 21);

female kayakers Ali Morham and Priscilla McKenney (Team 23);

Manitoba kayaker Darwin Wiebe (Team 2);

Calgary kayaker Terry Olexyn (Team 20);

Edmonton canoeists Eoin Clancy and Adam Kulaga (Team 30);

and Montana canoeists Dave McWethy and Sauny Sewell (Team 46).

Two Dutch voyageur canoe groups (Team 16 and 17) also pulled out at Carmacks, and technically, so did the Whitehorse voyageur group – Paddlers Abreast (Team 54).

With team member Cheryl Rivest unable to continue, the team inserted a spare paddler and continued downriver – a move that ultimately disqualifies them from the race.
