U-9 and U-11 divisions wrap-up soccer season
The Yukon Soccer Association's (YSA) U-9 and U-11 divisions wrapped up their seasons with the Cross Field Soccer Championships over the weekend at F.H. Collins.

The Yukon Soccer Association's (YSA) U-9 and U-11 divisions wrapped up their seasons with the Cross Field Soccer Championships over the weekend at F.H. Collins.
After battling uncooperative weather for much of the season, which began May 1, the final tournament was played under sunny skies.
"The weather's a biggie, everyone had fun, there were a few sunburned faces but overall it was really good,鈥 said Tony Gaw, head referee and technical director at YSA.
In U-9 action, Home Sweet Home Baking defeated Duncan's Limited in the semi-finals to earn a berth into the gold medal match.
Yukon Outfitters prevailed over Sportslife to set the finals.
In a tightly contested match, Home Sweet Home emerged as the champions, defeating Yukon
Outfitters 3-2. In the bronze medal game, Duncan's Limited defeated Sportslife 4-2.
Helene Maguire and Keelin Henderson-Pekarik of the gold-medal winning team Home Sweet Home Baking were named players of the tournament, as selected by the coaches.
Also receiving those honours were Abbie Rich and Dylan Currie for Yukon Outfitters, Kalina LaRochelle, Hyden Benoit and Zeke Dukart for Duncan's Limited and Evan Ingram for Sportslife.
In the U-11 bracket, Coldwell Banker took on TD Bank in the gold medal game. Coldwell got out to a 1-0 lead before sealing the win with a late goal, winning gold, 2-0.
In bronze medal action, Coates Services defeated Fenix House 6-2.
Players of the tournament included Seth Carey for Coldwell Banker, Brandon Petelski for TD Bank, Dawson Weir and Jarod McCulloch for Coates Services and Micah Taggert-Cox and Joseph Coyne for Fenix House.
The tournament wraps up the season for the two divisions.
Gaw said he was impressed with the league play this season.
"They were very competitive, he said. "I was really impressed with the quality. I have to say this is one of the better years that I've seen. Their enthusiasm level is really high.鈥
Gaw received support on the sidelines from local youth referees that managed the tournament.
"It worked really well,鈥 he said. "They did a great job.鈥
The action will continue this weekend with the U-10 division heading to Dawson City for the Yukon Championship.
The remaining divisions, U-12, U-13 and U-15 will host their season ending tournament on June 22 to 24.
Gaw extended his thanks to the all the parents, coaches, referees and sponsors for their support during the season, as well as Stan Dorosz and Tom Fairman for lining the fields.
