Whitehorse Minor Soccer's U-9 and U-10 cross-field championships were held this past weekend at Vanier Catholic and F.H. Collins secondary schools.

The round robin portion of the tournament was played on Friday and Saturday with the semis and finals on Sunday.

Although the weather was unsettled it was warm with lots of sun. The Yukon Strikers Soccer Club U-14 girls set up a concession with hotdogs and homemade baking.

U-9

The gold-medal game pitted Budget Plumbing and All Yukon Refrigeration against each other in an exciting game that went all the way to penalty kicks.

At the end of regulation the score was 2-2, and even overtime couldn't decide it. Ty Beacon had both regulation goals for Budget, and Sawyer Adams and Kate Mason responded for All Yukon.

Budget prevailed in the penalty shootout, winning the final 2-1. Beacon and Tristan Yule converted for Budget on penalties, while only Glade Roberts scored for All Yukon.

All Yukon beat Mic Mac Toyota 4-1 in the semis to earn a berth in the finals. Adams was named MVP in the win, while Isaac O'Brien got the honours for Mic Mac.

Budget squeaked into the finals, edging YukonHost.com 3-2 thanks to an MVP performance by Aleigha Wood.

YukonHost.com won the bronze medal, 4-1 over Mic Mac. The game was closer than the score showed, with YukonHost.com netting two late goals.

U-10

La Biciclleta B&B took home the gold medal by beating Northern Lights Optometry 5-3.

This was a very exciting game with the score being tied at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3 before B&B took control with two late goals.

Both coaches, Ann Chapman and Craig Charlton were very proud of their players in a very hard-fought game. MVP for B&B was Abby Rich and for Northern Lights – Chelsea Gorrell.

La Biciclleta B&B squeaked out a victory over Medicine Chest Pharmacy in their semifinal, winning 2-1. Micah Taggart-

Cox was named MVP in the win, and Daniel Wilberforce got honours for a strong effort in a losing cause.

Northern Lights also won a tight semifinal, beating Titan Gaming 3-2. Northern Lights' Sara Charlton and Titan's Curtis Cash were players of the game.

Titan Gaming beat Medicine Chest 1-0 with a late goal (last two minutes) by Sammy Demchuk to win bronze. Coach Ross Lindley was very excited with the victory saying his team saved their best game of the year for the last. MVP for Titan was Taliya Lindley.
