Caleb McPherson had a thirteenth birthday to remember this past weekend.
The local cyclist was the top finisher in the 15-kilometre Individual time trail at the Alberta Provincial ITT Championships hosted by the Juventus Cycling Club.
McPherson was one of five members of the local U Kon Echelon Bike Club competing in Alberta.
McPherson finished the race in 26 minutes and 53 seconds, nearly two minutes ahead of second place finisher Anthony Kende of Calgary.
Caleb's brother, Jacob, came third overall with a time of 29:30.
U Kon Echelon also had two members compete in the U15 15-km time trail with Brace Lemphers placing second overall in a time of 23:35. He came second to Neils Lof by 1.6 seconds who was racing with the Alberta Cyclemeister club.
Lof and his teammates competed in sponsored suits and equipment while Lemphers rode to a second place finish on a well loved U Kon Echelon time trial bike without disk wheels or high end equipment.
Another U Kon member, Mathew Knaack placed sixth overall with a time of 25:31, just 1.57 seconds behind first place.
Ava Irving-Staley, at just seven-years-old, rode to a second place finish in the U13 girls 15-km time trail.
Eleven-year-old Samath Hargreaves of Calgary placed first overall with a time of 26:45 while Irving-Staley finished in 44:05.
Knaack and Lemphers also competed in the U15 32-km road race on Saturday with Lemphers pacing third overall.
He was a fraction of a second behind second place finisher Thomas Hargreaves of Calgary. Knaack placed fifth overall.
The U Kon Echelon Club, lead by head coach Trena Irving, also features hand cyclist Darryl Tait but he was unable to compete due to a prior commitment.
The club entered the Alberta events fresh off a dominant performance in the annual Tour de Juneau race, the first Outside event for team.
Members Melanie Tait and Shea Hoffman put in impressive performances as did Irving-Staley, Knaack, Lemphers and Darryl Tait.
The club would like to thank Zach Bell and his family for their continued support and help with bicycles and gear.
