鈥淲ell, basically what we鈥檝e heard from government. We listened to the premier yesterday, as well as鈥 the fact that we have no cases left here, it鈥檚 diminishing considerably,so we thought it would be safe enough for everybody to go back to playing, and if there鈥檚 any concerns, then they should be taking precautions like masks and those kinds of things for themselves.鈥
Players and teams not coming back will be reimbursed based on expenses incurred by Softball Yukon so far.
It look like the majority of players and teams will be returning. 鈥淎t this point, the indication to us is that we鈥檝e got the majority coming back,鈥 said Arcand. 鈥淭here鈥檚 a few that have indicated they鈥檙e not. But unless I hear different by tomorrow, I think we鈥檙e going to have the majority. I think like 70 or 80 percent for sure.鈥
COVID-19 protocols will be virtually the same as they were before the stoppage in play.
鈥淲ell we鈥檝e got the same things as we鈥檝e had. We鈥檝e got the same list. We鈥檙e asking them to wear masks if they can鈥檛 distance properly. During the game, it鈥檚 not an issue. It鈥檚 in the dugouts or up around the concession, that type of thing鈥 so the same types of things we had before we ended up with the major wave,鈥 said Arcand.
Arcand said masks are required in the dugout but not in the field.
鈥淭here鈥檚 no requirement to do it on the field. Everybody鈥檚 far enough apart in playing their positions, so those are not issues any more.鈥
Arcand said it鈥檚 going to be good to be back.
鈥淚t鈥檚 good! It鈥檚 great to see it coming back, it鈥檚 a bit of a scramble in a sense of the word, but it will be good. I think it will leave us with some closure to the summer.鈥
According to Arcand the season will be extended until the 23rd of August.
It was originally supposed to end August 9.
鈥淲e can鈥檛 go much past the 23rd. it鈥檚 pushing it to even go that far鈥 It doesn鈥檛 give you back everything that you lost, but quite a bit of it.鈥
As for the odds of finishing the season, Arcand likes their chances.
鈥淚鈥檓 positive the season will finish, barring anything like what happened in June. If we don鈥檛 have any other big waves, or issues I think we鈥檒l be fine. I think they鈥檙e going to lift the emergency order in August, so I think we鈥檒l be fine.鈥
