Whitehorse duo repeats as bridge champs in Haines

A total of 67 players – including 24 from the Yukon – attended the three-day event held at the American Bald Eagle Foundation Center, to take part in the trick-taking card game.
When the dust settled, Chris Bookless and Mark Davey of Whitehorse emerged victorious for the second year in a row.
The duo shuffled, dealt, and played their way to the most American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) masterpoints to repeat as tournament champs.
Bookless and Davey are members of the Whitehorse Duplicate Bridge Club, which meets weekly at the Golden Age Society.
Following close behind in second were Bob and Sally Lix of Haines. Roger Schnabel and Fred Shields of Haines finished in third place, while Whitehorse's Darwin Wreggitt and her teammate Irene Szabla of Nova Scotia took fourth.
In all, 66 players won ACBL masterpoints – the recognized achievement award for ACBL duplicate bridge play.
Yukon players came not only from the capital city, but also Dawson City and Teslin, tournament organizer Rob Miller said in a press release.
