Clint Mylymok has been named the head coach of the Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association.

The announcement was made Monday on the local organization's website.

Mylymok spent last season as an assistant coach with the Notre Dame Hounds of the Superior International Junior Hockey League in Wilcox, Sask.

Born in London, Ont., Mylymok has an impressive hockey resume, including being named coach of the year in 2009-2010 for his work as head coach with the SIJHL's Dryden Ice Dogs.

The following year, he was the runner-up for the honour after his team once again reached the Junior A league's finals.

Mylymok earned his BA at the University of Western Ontario in 1996, and has held a variety of positions with the Canadian Hockey League, Western Hockey League, and East Coast Hockey League.

According to the WMHA announcement, his coaching style is based on professional and college systems that stress defence first, as well as team cohesiveness, discipline, and both on- and off-ice player development.

Mylymok is expected to be in Whitehorse prior to Mustang tryouts, coach training and the beginning of the house league season.

In an interview with the Star in April, WMHA president Carl Burgess said the new hire will help develop a coaching program that will see practice strategies and skill plans become uniform across the association.

The new hire was made possible in part thanks to the Yukon Government and Community Development Fund.

The hockey association is also seeking an office manager to provide administrative support to the board and new head coach.
