The Whitehorse Women's Hockey League has returned to action with a new development – a full-time female goalie for each team.

After spending the first half using a variety of goaltending solutions, each of the six teams will now have a dedicated goalie.

Blue Rodeo's Sue Roy is the newest goaltending addition to the league.

"She was unable to play in the fall, but has committed to the final half,” explained Joelle Hodgins, vice president of the Whitehorse Women's Hockey Association.

Gold Diggers goalie Tyya Wilkinson spent a lot of time out of town for work during the first half of the season, but will be in Whitehorse more regularly over the coming months.

Hodgins said the league will continue to maintain a sub list with a few male goalies from the rec and oldtimer leagues, "just in case.”

Besides Roy and Wilkinson, the other four goalies are Amy Gill of the Green

Beasts, Stacey Bowden of Red Dragon, Veronique Lafond of Whitesnake and Kim Stavert of Black Ice.

Whitesnake 3, Red Dragons 2

Substitute Joelle Hodgins picked up a goal and assist to lead Whitesnake to just their fourth victory on the season, Sunday.

Christina Lawrence and Lindy-Jo Ashton also scored as Whitesnake upset the league's top team.

Nicole Petersen and Meagan Bridge responded for Red in the loss.

Black Ice 9, Green Beasts 4

Substitute Danielle Hodgson scored twice and had two assists as Black Ice downed the Beasts Saturday night.

Sue Hamilton also netted a pair alongside one assist, while Jonnie-Lyn Kushniruk had a goal and one assist.

Lareina Twardochleb, Karen Branigan, Sasha Merrell and Vanessa Bogaert also scored to round out the scoring. Jen Olson picked up a pair of assists in the win.

Beasts centre Laura Grieve scored her 20th and 21st goals of the season for Green to retain her scoring lead.

Katherine MacKellar (1G, 1A), Janice Sibbeston (1G) and Joelle Hodgins (2A) rounded out the scoring.

Gold Diggers 7, Blue Rodeo 0

Substitute Laura Grieve put on a clinic, racking up two goals and four assists to lead Gold over Blue. Tyya Wilkinson picked up the shutout.

Tiffanie Tasane added a goal and assist, while Cynthia Desoto, Lisa Magoffin, Jasmine Kaytor and Joelle Hodgins chipped in singles.

Gold Diggers 6, Green Beasts 2
