Yukon cross-country skiers will once again play a key role on Cross Country Canada's teams next season.
Yukon cross-country skiers will once again play a key role on Cross Country Canada's teams next season.
The organization announced its national team rosters late last month.
Following a dominant Paralympics where he served as a guide to Brian McKeever, Graham Nishikawa will continue to serve as a guide on the Para-Nordic World Cup team.
Younger sister Emily Nishikawa will spend a fourth season on the senior development team at the Alberta World Cup Academy, while Dahria Beatty will join her as a teammate this season in the Under-23 category.
Meanwhile, Annah Hanthorn was named to the national junior team for the first time.
Beatty relayed her excitement in a blog post Monday.
"In the past month, the most exciting news for me has been the national team announcements,鈥 she stated. "It is amazing to be named to the national team right after graduating from the junior ranks. I could not be more motivated about the coming year of training and racing.鈥
Two young Yukon men have also been tagged as potential future Canadian stars as Marcus Deuling and Caelan McLean were both named to the National Talent Squad.
Emily Nishikawa was in the nation's capital yesterday for the 2014 Celebration of Excellence, a three-day series of events that will see the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams make public appearances in Ottawa and Alberta.
Yesterday culminated with the athletes being honoured by all members of Parliament in the House of Commons.
"Canada's athletes performed so well in Sochi and really made Canada proud,鈥 said Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport). "They deserve this great honour.鈥
