Olympian Corran Addison will teach clinics to interested paddlers through Monday

Just a few hours after touching down in Whitehorse, Corran Addison was on the water.

The world-class paddler, who is in Whitehorse for a week hosting paddling clinics for the Yukon Canoe and Kayak Club, had never been to the Yukon before.

Addison, an Olympian and world-medallist, doesn鈥檛 teach much anymore, but when he was approached by YCKC鈥坱o offer clinics to local paddlers, he jumped at the chance.

Addison currently lives in Montreal and has been impressed with the recreational infrastructure that he鈥檚 seen so far.

There are three clinics per day with Addison in a range of disciplines and the schedule will be changed as needed, he says.

鈥淚t鈥檚 sort of a moving target,鈥� he says. 鈥淚 come to these sorts of events with some pre-conceived notions about what it is that I would most likely be teaching, other people who sign up for the classes come here with some ideas of what it is that they want to learn and invariably it鈥檚 neither of those.鈥�

During the meet and greet last night, there were more than 50 paddlers that came through, he says.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a really cool crowd. We started off on the water and paddled. There鈥檚 obviously a very diverse range of skills and ages,鈥� he says.
