The F.H. Collins student will compete in downriver racing, slalom racing and freestyle whitewater events in C-1 (closed canoe) and Open Canoe
categories Aug. 1 to 4.
According to Yukan Canoe, there have been two junior athletes who have competed in freestyle kayaking in the past, but this will be the first time a paddler from the territory will compete in the canoe categories.
Whitewater slalom is an Olympic event, while downriver and freestyle have world championship-level events. The upcoming national event will be used to select U-18 and U-23 national team members.
Vincent-Braun is an accomplished paddler, and is looking forward to putting his skills up against other Canadians. He has paddled multiple rivers in the Yukon, Ontario and Quebec, and has finished as runner-up in the Whitehorse Canoe and Kayak Rodeo for the past two years in the open category.
An avid filmmaker, his film 鈥楶addling with Pelly' was shown at a paddling gathering in Tennessee in April.
