CARMACKS 鈥 Jeremy and Gillian Stavely are celebrating their wedding in a unique way this week.
The Whitehorse couple is spending their honeymoon racing in the Yukon River Quest.
The 715-kilometre trip down the Yukon River is actually happening a year later than it was supposed to. The two were aiming to complete the odyssey shortly after their wedding on June 21 last year, but time got away from them.
Celebrating their love on a river just seemed like the natural thing to do, said Jeremy, a 29-year-old carpenter.
"We got engaged on a paddling trip two years ago, so it's kind of our thing,鈥 he explained.
The two arrived at the Carmacks checkpoint Thursday afternoon in good spirits, and second in the mixed tandem canoe class.
"We're happy. We're still in love,鈥 Gillian laughed.
"There hasn't been one argument yet,鈥 added Jeremy. "I don't know if we'll make it to Dawson without one, but so far, so good.鈥
The two, who previously completed the Yukon 360 race together, are travelling as team 鈥楬ippy Dippy.'
They got through Lake Laberge relatively unscathed, but did take on water which forced them to stop once.
Jeremy attempted the River Quest in 2012, but was forced to scratch when his partner suffered an injury.
Gillian, 25, works as an instructor at Yukon College.
