As another Yukon winter fades into history, bicycles are once again becoming a common sight on roadways.
U Kon Echelon, a Whitehorse-based developmental club, will start its season with a 17-km time trial starting at the Carcross Corner cutoff next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The race will serve as a segue into a busy month of May, which includes an 88-km road race in Haines Junction May 10, the 81-km Tour De Skagway-Carcross May 17, followed by the 20-km Skagway Hill鈥圕limb May 18.
Races will continue throughout the summer, highlighted by the Boogaloo mountain bike race, the Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay, the Southern Lakes Bike Loppet, and the 24 Hours of Light Mountain Bike Festival.
Registration for the Kluane Chilkat relay, which sees riders compete alone or in teams on the road from Haines Junction to Haines, Alaska, is now closed.
However, solo riders will be able to register until June 13.
U Kon Echelon is a relatively new club which aims to get local cyclists out road biking, hand cycling, mountain biking and snow biking. The club cycles and races all season long, and also participates in training camps and events outside of the Yukon.
