Two of the three goals scored by the Calgary squad have come courtesy of Whitehorse players Emily Fedoriak and Jocelyn Wynnyk.
While the Trojans are currently in last place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference鈥檚 (ACAC) South Division at 0-5-2, things may be even worse if not for their Yukon scorers.
On Sept. 26, Fedoriak, 23, scored to salvage a 1-1 draw with the Olds College Broncos.
The first-year student studying respiratory therapy actually scored three times on the day, but two of her goals were called back on offside rulings.
鈥(Olds College) really only had the one shot,鈥 said Trojans coach John Talerico.
鈥淲e outplayed them in all facets of the game. In the end, we played very well.鈥
Despite ending a four-game losing streak, Talerico was disheartened that his team鈥檚 hard work didn't translate into their first victory of the season.
鈥淥ur work ethic was there, up and down the field,鈥 he said.
鈥淭he outcome is disappointing, but our play was fantastic.鈥
Five-foot-eight Fedoriak isn鈥檛 the only striker prowling the offensive zone for the Trojans.
Third-year Wynnyk is also tasked with sniping goals for the squad, and she came through in the home opener Sept. 19.
After being shut out in three straight, the five-foot-three striker finally broke the goose egg, burying a loose ball that came after a teammate鈥檚 free kick.
While the team eventually lost 4-1 to the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers, who scored on the very next play after Wynnyk鈥檚 goal.
鈥淲e were asleep at the wheel,鈥 coach Talerico admitted. 鈥淚t鈥檚 unfortunate, but it鈥檚 things we can work on. We鈥檙e a young team and we鈥檙e learning.鈥
Wynnyk, 20, is studying administrative info management at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
When she鈥檚 not on the pitch, the two-sport athlete can be found patrolling the crease for the Trojans鈥 varsity women鈥檚 hockey team.
The hockey club is currently 1-1, two games into the season.
