Fifteen-year-old figure skater Morgan Madden finished eighth in her group at the Jingle Blades competition, held last weekend in White Rock, B.C.
Madden, a Grade 10 student at Porter Creek Secondary School, skated a free program on Saturday, scoring an 11.15.
"I thought I was probably going to place around eighth,鈥 Madden admitted. "I felt good about it.鈥
She fell after landing her triple-toe, and didn't drop low enough on her death drop, said Arctic Edge coach Charlene Donald.
"She finished in the top half, which is good, but I would have expected her a little higher if she had skated clean,鈥 Donald added. "I'm impressed with where she's at.
She learned a lot from this skate and knows now what to push for.
"She started skating with me five years ago. She had never skated before.鈥
Local skater Kelsey Armstrong was unable to compete at Jingle Blades due to a lung infection, Donald said.
