The ski season may be a few months away, but Yukon skiers are still managing to attract national attention.

Cross Country Canada has named Whitehorse skiers Kendra Murray and Lee Hawkings to the team that will represent Canada at the upcoming World University Games, to be held at Val di Fiemme, Italy in early December this year.

The duo, part of a 10-athlete strong Canadian contingent, were chosen from full-time university students based on race results attained throughout the 2012-13 season.

Both Murray and Hawkings attend Carleton University in Ottawa.

Murray recently competed for Team Canada at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in the Czech Republic.

The ski team will be led by Mary Waddell, herself no stranger to the Yukon. She is a former Whitehorse resident and Cross Country Yukon staff member.
