Minor league summer soccer has officially come to a close in Whitehorse.
Minor league summer soccer has officially come to a close in Whitehorse.
The U-9 and U-11 divisions were the first to wrap up their seasons with the Cross Field Soccer Championships earlier in the month and the tournaments have continued over the past two weekends.
The U-10 finals were the next on the list, with two Whitehorse teams traveling to Dawson City to compete in the four-team championship two weeks ago.
Whitehorse athletes put up a valiant effort against teams from Haines Junction and Dawson as bagpipes billowed in the background as part of the Top of the World Highland Games.
After match play, the athletes also put their skills to the test through a series of competitions testing their dribbling and juggling while also hosting a hardest shot and a penalty shoot-out competition.
They were rewarded for their efforts with soccer balls from the Soccer Shoppe.
The final tournament was hosted this past weekend as the U-12, U-13 and U-15 divisions competed in the Full Field Soccer Championships.
The teams welcomed the reprieve from the rainy weather and competed under mostly sunny skies at F.H. Collins.
Tony Gaw, head referee and technical director with the Yukon Soccer Associate, said the tournament was worth the wait, featuring exciting games with equal talent spread across the teams.
In the U-12 division, All Terrane Mineral Explorations punched their ticket to the gold medal match after defeating Dawson City in extra time.
They matched up against Access Consulting in the final and maintained their momentum, defeating Access 3-1.
They were carried by the strong play of Cruz Goodman who netted two goals while Gary Schulz added another.
Jewel Davies scored the lone goal for Access.
In the bronze medal match-up The Eagles defeated Dawson City 2-1.
Scoring for the Eagles was Joe Stokes and Mattias Hoenisch, Ethan Gaw was the only one to find the back of the net for Dawson.
In U-13 action, Yukon Pump and Impact Well Drilling required a shoot-out to declare a winner in the semi-finals.
After 12 players took part, Impact moved on to the final where they met Murraya Dental.
Murraya scored the lone goal of the final, a strike from Malorie Hanson, taking the gold 1-0.
In the bronze medal final, Yukon Pump looked for retribution after their shoot-out loss, and knocked out Underhill, 7-0.
Ryan Hindson netted a hat-trick for Yukon Pump while Rory Sinlclair-Ecrett, Ale Roberts and Logan Morris each added a goal.
The U-15 division saw Wintemute Electric taking on Eagle Construction and Henry Gulch Exploration battling Dandelion Dental.
Wintemute and Henry Gulch moved onto the gold medal game and Eagle and Dandelion squared off in the bronze match.
Pierre Lefebvre and Sam Lee scored for Wintemute and helped carry them to a 2-1 victory.
Graydon McDonnell scored the lone goal for the Gulch crew.
In the bronze medal game Eagle Construction won a close-match, defeating Dandelion 3-2.
Luka van Randen, Allan Marks and Katherine Fortune scored for Eagle and Callum Wood and Ryan and Chris Torgerson replied for Dandelion.
Gaw extended his thanks to the parents, coaches, referees and all the sponsors for their on-going and generous support.
