Two Yukon swimmers have brought home gold.

The Whitehorse Glacier Bears were in Surrey, B.C. this past weekend for the B.C. AA championships.

Danica Nelson and Luke Bakica came away with gold medals in the 20- metre backstroke for their respective age groups - Nelson in the female 14-year-old age group with a time of 2.57.12 and Bakica in the male 12-year-old age group with a time of 3.09.81, it was posted on the Glacier Bears website this morning.

Nelson's time was less than a second faster than her closest competitor Calli Charlton who finished with a time of 2:58.22.

Meanwhile Bakica's closest competitor in the 200 m breast was Ian Chadwick who was more than a second off at 3.11.14.

Bakica also made it to the finals for the male's 100-m breaststroke in the 12-year-old category, coming in fourth.

Nelson and Bakica were two of five Glacier Bears to attend the meet. Luke's brother Thomas as well as Matthew Blakesley and Taylor Harvey also took part in the championship of more than 200 swimmers from across B.C.

Harvey made it to the finals in the 100- m backstroke finals for the female 13-year-old age group, taking seventh spot.

Blakesley came in fifth, just behind Bakica, in the 100-m backstroke. Blakesley had a time of 1:30.81

compared to Bakica's 1.30.28.

Nelson and Bakica's times in the 200-m breaststroke were fast enough to earn them each a spot in the AAA short course championships set to begin Feb. 28 in Victoria, B.C.

"Way to go Bears,鈥 it's noted on the Bears website.
