For their final game in the tournament, there鈥檚 no team the Yukon Titans would have rather played than the Ontario Freaks.

At last year鈥檚 nationals in鈥圤ntario, Roni-Sue Steinhagen remembers how hot and humid their game against the Freaks was. When they walked off the pitch, the Freaks were waiting and handed each of them a cold brew.

Even though the skies were grey and threatening rain at the end of last night鈥檚 game, the Titans returned the favour.

鈥淭his was a good game, a fun one,鈥� said Steinhagen. 鈥淲e came into it ready to have a good time because we know these ladies.鈥�

The game was close too, 11-9 for the Freaks. Highlights included two home runs from Melanie Lachapelle and Heather Mayes.

The whole battling line-up was engaged, as runs came from Florence Kushniruk, Mayes, Sharmane Jones, Heidi Harry, Shari Wrixon, Heather Julsrud, Lachapelle and Valerie Boxall.

The Titans finished the tournament with a 1-7 record.

Yukon鈥檚 other women鈥檚 team, the Sistas finished 2-6.

鈥淭he ladies all had a good time and enjoyed the company,鈥� said coach Russ Smoler. 鈥淭hey can hold their heads high, we did well.鈥�

On the men鈥檚 side, host team, Dave鈥檚 Cleaning Crew finished 1-7 in their group. Their win came in their first game of the tournament, against the Northwest Territories Inuvik Native Yankees.

Team Yukon, the P & M Recycling Guns finished at the bottom of their group with an 0-8 record.

As they walked off the pitch after their final game, against top-ranked Ontario鈥檚 Mike HR Sports Orioles, there was already talk of fall training.

The Guns started the game up, and they stayed up until the sixth inning.

鈥淲e brought them to the sixth. We haven鈥檛 gotten to the sixth inning a whole bunch this week and these guys are no joke,鈥� said coach Mike Tuton. 鈥淲e made them work for it.

But they struggled with outs and as they couldn鈥檛 get the outs, the Orioles kept bringing runners home.

The final score was for the Orioles, 29-16. The Orioles scored 18 of those runs in the sixth inning.

Sheldon King came through with two runs and four RBIs, while Shayne King had one run. Matt Kramer had two runs and four RBIs as Brian White had one run and one RBI. Chad Curlew put up one run, Aaron鈥團rance had two and one RBI, Joe Vigneau had one run and three RBIs. Robin Smith posted one run, Gibson Pearson had two runs and three RBIs.鈥圫cott Horsey had two runs and Bryden Cook had one.

鈥淲e lost by a whole bunch, but we didn鈥檛 beat ourselves,鈥� said鈥圱uton. 鈥淎fter seven games of sub-par games we played the way we wanted to play... . This was the most uplifting loss we had. The boys really played for each other.鈥�

The Guns likely won鈥檛 return to A Division ball, but would look to compete in the C-division in the future said Tuton.

While no Yukon teams advanced to the playoffs, those will kick-off today.

The finals for both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 games kick off tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Pepsi Softball鈥圕entre.
