Yukoners place well at Summerfast 10K

The event was held in conjuction with the Summerfast 10K, hosted by the Vancouver Falcons in Stanley Park.
The Yukoners found themselves among the top finishers, with Roots leading the way with a fourth overall time of 32:42 鈥 good for first in the men鈥檚 20-24 category.
Vancouver鈥檚 Kelly Wiebe was the overall winner with a time of 30:17.
The run was held despite heavy rain.
Despite being happy with his result, Roots did run a 32:09 at the Sun Run in April, he said in a statement on his personal blog.
鈥淚t was awesome,鈥濃圧oots said of his recent run.
鈥淚 got fourth overall and won my age group ... I鈥檒l be back next year for sure because the baked goods were amazing and I need to redeem myself.鈥
Meanwhile, the other two Yukoners competing finished in 12th and 13th, respectively.
Carson completed the 10-km route in 34:47, one second ahead of Boehmer.
Carson鈥檚 time was good enough to win the women鈥檚 20-24 age group. She was the second female to cross the line.
Boehmer finished third in the men鈥檚 20-24 division.
Roots is expected to return to the territory for the Yukon鈥圧iver Trail Marathon this weekend.
He will challenge 2013 champion David Eikelboom for victory in the full marathon distance.
The race is set for Sunday, Aug. 3, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The annual race features some of the capital city鈥檚 top single-track trails around Schwatka Lake and Chadburn Lake.
The event will also include half marathon and relay events.
Following the trail marathon, the next major Athletics Yukon event will be the Long Lake Triathlon, set for Aug. 9.
