Yukonʼs medal haul swells to 48
The Yukon received a boost from its snowshoe contingent yesterday in the form of eight ulus.

FAIRBANKS – The Yukon received a boost from its snowshoe contingent yesterday in the form of eight ulus.
The snowboard group also continued to turn heads, adding five more medals to an already-impressive haul.
Overall, the territory was fitted with 20 more medals yesterday, good for 48 overall and fourth place.
Host Alaska continues to lead the way with 89 medals, including 26 golds.
The snowshoers led the way for the Yukon Wednesday, claiming three gold medals.
Junior male Aidan Bradley and juvenile female Alice Frost-Handberg each won their short distance combined races, while the junior 4x400 relay team of Kate Londero, Sara Burke-Forsyth, Bradley, and Kieran Halliday also ran a golden race.
Other Yukoners to strike gold yesterday included alpine skier Katie Vowk in the juvenile female slalom race, snowboarder Haylie Grant in the juvenile female slopestyle, and two Dene Games Hand Games teams in the open male and junior female categories.
Yesterdayʼs silver medal winners included alpine skier Josie Storey in the junior slalom race, snowboarder Esa Suominen in the juvenile slopestyle event, junior snowshoers Burke-Forsyth and Halliday, in their respective short distance combined races, and the Yukonʼs juvenile female Hand Games team.
Claiming bronze ulus for the Yukon were alpine skier Abby Hawes in junior slalom, Fayne OʼDonovan in junior triple jump, snowboarders Rachel MacIntosh, Reanna Âé¶¹ÉçÇøome and Tim Schirmer in slopestyle, and snowshoers Kate Londero and Angus Clarke in short distance combined.
The juvenile-aged snowshoe team also won bronze in the 4x400 relay.
