A good time was had by all at the YXY Cross cycling event last weekend.

The YXY Cross took place at the stadium at Mt. Mac. in Whitehorse.

Twenty-nine riders competed in the senior class and 36 children aged six-12 did one to three laps on their own course.

Willie Bell won the 6 Lap senior race. After the race, he said he was 鈥減retty tired.鈥

鈥淚t was great. Really fun. Liked all the features. Tiring though.鈥

When asked what his key to winning was, Bell replied 鈥渘ot falling off.鈥

Bell figured this was the third time he raced in the event.

鈥淚 think this is my best result. I don鈥檛 think I won before.鈥

Simon Connell won the 4 Lap category of the senior race.

Ian Parker, last week鈥檚 King of the Canyon at the Yukon XC Mountain Bike Championships, finished third in the 6 Lap category. When asked how his race went, he said 鈥淚t鈥檚 hard to say. My heart rate鈥檚 still coming down. I鈥檝e still got lactic acid filling up to my eyelids at the moment.

鈥淚t was hard. Cycling cross is such a unique discipline. You sort of redline off the start and then you just keep it there as long as you can while you鈥檙e trying to ride all these technical features.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a technical, tough course and it鈥檚 not the type of riding that we practice in town very much. That鈥檚 why it鈥檚 so unique and has a great levelling effect, because some people are great technical riders 鈥 other people just have that fitness, especially the skiers and it鈥檚 the people that have both that really, really excel at this kind of event.鈥

Parker, one of the event organizers, added 鈥淎ll in all, couldn鈥檛 ask for a better day and a better vibe, a better course. We鈥檙e pretty stoked with how it鈥檚 all gone 鈥 to see it all come together and see the people on the course, hear the music and feel the vibe 鈥 it鈥檚 pretty gratifying. It鈥檚 pretty rad.鈥
