Zombies coming to the bike course
The living dead walked the streets of Whitehorse last week in the annual Zombiewalk and this weekend they will make their return.
The living dead walked the streets of Whitehorse last week in the annual Zombiewalk and this weekend they will make their return.
Instead of scouring the downtown core, the zombies will be looking to feast on local cyclists.
Contagious Mountain Bike Club (CMBC) will be hosting their first ever 鈥楧awn of the Living Tread鈥 race at Selkirk School on Saturday.
The cyclocross race will feature a mix of grass, sand and asphalt and lead riders on a lap course ranging from two to four kilometres.
In addition to course obstacles, the riders will also have to avoid the outstretched arms of those hungry for brains.
Registration is open to all bike models and begins at 5 p.m. Both the course start and zombie apocalypse are scheduled for 5:30.
The race cost is $5.
It's the last scheduled event for CMBC and will wrap up another successful season for the club.
Unlike downhill mountain biking, cyclocross races typically consist of many laps around a short course that feature pavement, trail, grass, climbs and obstacles which require the rider to dismount and carry their bikes to the next patch of rideable land.
The races are usually based on a time limit rather than a number of laps.
The courses are less technical than mountain biking but the obstacles provide a test for the cyclists.
